Pink Dye
Cut 1 medium beet into chunks and add to 4 cups boiling water. Stir in 2 tsp vinegar and let cool to room temperature and remove beets.
Brown Dye
Add 1 tsp vinegar to 1 cup strong coffee.
Jade Green Dye
Peel the skin from 6 red onions and simmer in 2 cups water for 15 minutes. Add 3 tsp white vinegar.
For the richest colors leave eggs soaking in the dye in the refrigerator overnight.
Leaf and Flower Print Technique
You will need a few freshly picked leaves and flowers, nylon stockings, twist ties, and scissors. Put one or more of the leaves onto an egg and wrap the whole egg in nylon. Pull the nylon tightly around it to hold the leaf in place and secure with a twist tie. Cut off the excess nylon and dye the egg with color that you like. When the nylon and the plant materials have been removed from the egg, you will be left with a perfect outline of the leaf or flower!
Use these natural dye recipes to create Easter eggs in beautifully subdued shades.
