Look around you. What do you see, neatness or chaos? Your work environment largely reflects what is going on in your head. Clutter on your desk can mean chaos in your thoughts, while cleanliness and tidiness can be signs of a clear mind.
You can easily change your state of mind by changing your environment. By doing so, you create a mental space that gives you freedom, ease of thought and high concentration. In this article you’ll learn 7 ways to organize your workplace quickly and efficiently.
If you tend to pile things on your desk until you must dig through it to see any monitor at all, this is the article for you. It’s time for a little revolution.
Time and time again I’ve had the opportunity to work in an environment full of papers, cards, books, mugs, and other objects. The effectiveness of work in such a place seems far from satisfactory. In a cluttered environment, it’s much tougher to think about one task. Table clutter in an inexplicable way, like a virus infecting my head is a stimulus that makes clear thinking difficult.
So when one day I noticed the above dependencies, I made a decision to first maintain order in my work environment, and only then I started to complete the planned tasks. I did a complete cleaning until everything was in place.
When I’m done cleaning like this, I all the time sit down at my desk… and I’m so relieved. There is an indescribable feeling of pleasant space in my head that enables for clear thinking and sharp concentration. It was as if someone had stuffed into my head such a boundless space, stuffed with boundless emptiness. This feeling allows me to get to work with enthusiasm and do what I must do effectively.
Since then, I’ve been happy to keep my workspace as minimal as possible. You will find there only what I need most. The rest is empty space.
In order to attain such an effect, it’s a good idea to tidy up the table according to some special rules. Therefore, as a result of considerable experience in organizing my workplace, I have prepared for you the 7 most significant tips that will help you clean up your environment in the best way. Here they’re:
How to Organize Your Workbench:
1. Whether you are cleaning out a desk, drawer, wardrobe, bookcase, shelf or window sill – everything, remove it and put it in a pile.
Ideally in the middle of the room, so you cannot take a break until the clutter clears. That way, you can ensure that everything is going through your hands. So the tidiness will be thorough, because with each item you can decide whether to return it to the table, shelf, etc., or it’s better to send it to the cellar or to the trash. Plus, you will be putting everything back together, ensuring every item is in its place!
2. Divide the items from the pile into three groups.
The first group is things that are back in place. The second group consists of things that you will not need in the near future and you can put them in other places: in a cardboard box, in the basement, in the wardrobe, in the next room. The third group is items that you no longer need and you want to get rid of. The target area for this group is trash cans. If you wish, you can add yet another group here – items that you can spend on kids from orphanages or for the poor.
3. When dividing, be as strict as possible.
Make quick and assured decisions. Don’t leave items at work that “might come in handy someday.” Throw it in a cardboard box and take it someplace so it does not clutter up your desk or drawer. If you think something might not be useful anymore, just throw it away without thinking about it, enjoy the free space it creates. Throw away any old papers, magazines, unnecessary notes or notes from the past year.
4. Do not clean everything without delay.
Cleaning a room or office can be overwhelming, so set small goals that you can complete in 15-20 minutes. You can start with all the drawers, the next day with the shelves, the next day with the wardrobe and so on. This way you’ll gradually organize your entire environment, without feeling more tired or wasting time.
5. Remember to keep your computer clean.
Clean your desktop of unused icons, leaving only those you need most. Pull out old movies, programs and games that take up plenty of space, slow down your computer. Change your wallpaper to one that evokes positive emotions and motivation in you.
6. Plan for the continuous maintenance of order in the workplace.
You can do this by putting a different item where it came from every time you store it, not where it fell. You can even all the time tidy up quickly after work to stop clutter from building up around you.
7. Enjoy the cleanliness.
Thank yourself for taking such a big step forward in your productivity and efficiency, because a clean work environment is a really important factor in the successful execution of tasks. Have the most enjoyable break you can imagine, then get to work! 🙂
Tidying the table – You’d think it is so easy and meaningless. However, your environment has a big impact on the quality of your work and even on the approach. Orderly, clean space promotes freshness of your mind. Of course, this is only one of many factors that will let you reach peaks in productivity and make your work effective and enjoyable.
